知識管理工具是指一切足以支援知識的建立、知識的儲存和知識傳播的應用工具。知識管理工具的目的不只是管理知識,更可以促進知識程序的進行。利用知識管理工具建立知識管理系統帶來的好處有:第一,使系統開發者較容易建立系統;第二,使知識管理者較容易管理系統;第三,提供建立知識、儲存知識和查詢知識等基本功能;第四,提供系統化的知識管理程序。目前的知識管理工具主要有以下幾類:文件管理系統,檢索、擷取知識之技術,企業入口網站,內容管理系統以及搜索引擎。雖然目前知識管理工具在知識的蒐集、儲存與傳播上的用途甚廣,但是對於知識的應用方面,它所能提供的幫助就十分有限。根據專家學者指出,目前知識管理系統,普遍面臨一些共同問題,包括有:第一,缺乏一個系統化的方法來整合知識管理的各項程序;第二,無法能同時表達陳述性知識與程序性知識並提供管理和推理之能力;第三,知識管理系統必須具有支援更新的能力,因為知識是不斷地改變與創新的;第四,資訊超載的情況讓知識工作者不容易找到真正所需的知識,因此必須提供具語意基礎的知識搜尋機制以易於找到適合的資訊;第五,知識工作者之間必須對於所處理的問題與知識有共同的瞭解與認知,才能共享知識與相互操作。本論文將應用KMKE知識工程方法來開發系統化之知識管理工具,包含知識模型、知識驗證、知識儲存與知識查詢,以減輕目前知識管理系統在知識利用上遭遇之問題。
