本文使用華人家庭動態資料庫的資料,觀察台灣社會是否存在著教育成就世代傳承的現象,同時也觀察華人社會特有的長子及長女效應是否也存在於台灣社會,以及其它家庭背景對教育成就的影響。研究結果發現,台灣社會的確存在著教育成就世代傳承的現象,父母親的教育成就與子女教育成就有著密切的關係,但長子及長女效應的方面,模型的估計結果並沒有提供一致性的結果;在其它家庭背景的影響方面,家庭所得仍是相當重要的影響因素,此外,父母對子女教育的實際支出與其對子女人力資本的投資意願對子女教育成就同樣也有著顯著的正向關係;而父母若曾經再婚將會大大減少子女學歷在高中以上的機率,因此健全的家庭環境是十分重要的。此外,家中第一個出生小孩的優勢在本研究中已不存在。
