Purpose: Whole body vibration (WBV) was known to alter serum concentrations of growth hormone (GH), cortisol (C) and testosterone (T).To our knowledge, there was no literature concerned about the effects of different frequencies whole body vibration on blood serum hormones. So the aim of this study was to investigate the effects of different frequencies WBV on growth hormone (GH), cortisol (C) and testosterone (T). Method: Twelve male healthy college track and field athletes volunteered for the study (age 19.75±2.2 years; height 172.75±4.7 cm; weight 65.38±8.1 kg). They applied 10 times of 1min WBV exercise with 1min rest insertion at three frequencies 0Hz, 30Hz and 50Hz respectly. After the 5th vibration the rest time was prolonged to 6min. Blood samples were collected before, immediately postexercise and 30 minutes postexercise. Result: No significant changes was found in serum growth hormone concentrations (p>.05). Serum cortisol concentrations was significant decreased immediately postexercise and 30min postexercise in 0Hz, 30Hz and 50Hz (p<.05). Serum testosterone concentrations was significant decreased immediately postexercise in 50Hz and 30min postexercise in 30Hz and 50Hz (p<.05). And there was no significant changes between the three frequencies (p>.05).
Conclusion: The present study discovered that whole body vibration can alter blood serum hormones, but the higher freguency can not produce greater alteration.
