傳統區域經濟學文獻鮮少從要素面探討廠商區位之決策,本文利用圓形市場模型檢視要素產地之分佈對空間數量競爭雙占廠商區位選擇之影響。在假定其他變數皆為對稱下,分別探討在一要素產地和兩要素產地之下,雙占廠商之區位決策。研究結果顯示,在一要素產地和兩要素完全聚集之下,數量競爭雙占廠商會選擇在以該要素產地為中心之半圓對稱設廠。當要素產地為完全分散,則兩廠商會選擇在垂直於兩要素產地之直徑的兩端點設廠。若兩要素產地為不對稱地分佈,則產品、要素之運輸費率以及兩要素產地之相鄰程度將會左右雙占廠商區位座落之形式。一個很特別的發現是:不論在一要素產地或兩要素產地下,若廠商區位均衡解為分離解,則兩廠之間的距離至少為市場長度之1/4,而非緩慢的隨著要素費率的增加向聚集點(clustering point)靠近;此乃導因於廠商間之策略效果。除此之外,本文也針對傳統空間數量競爭文獻中常引用之設定-每家廠商均服務整個市場-加以探討。本文認為過去許多文獻皆誤用了一個過度嚴格的全市場服務條件(whole-market-serving condition),此限制應可鬆綁。本研究屬於區域經濟學中一個新的研究方向,可視為後續研究的一個切入點。
This research study investigates the influence of specific input sites on the location choices of a Cournot duopoly in a circular market, by examining both the single-site and the two-site cases with symmetric specifications on other variables. The result shows that the duopolists will locate symmetrically at two opposite sides around the input site in both the perfectly-agglomerated case and the single-site case. For the perfectly-dispersed input sites, firms still locate equidistantly around a circle, but are restricted to a diameter perpendicular to that of the input sites. In asymmetric cases, firms’ locations depend on either the transportation rates or the geographic distribution of input sites. In addition, the firms’ strategic interaction prompts a notable result: for the separate location equilibrium, the distance between this duopoly must be greater than a quarter of the market-length. This research study also sheds a light on a common assumption in earlier literature whereby each firm serves the whole market. We suggest that previous studies may employ an over-strict whole-market-serving condition, and restrictions on the reservation price at each market point can be relaxed. This study provides benchmark analyses on these issues
