山藥富含植物雌激素，由細胞實驗或是動物實驗顯示植物雌激素具有抗發炎的作用，目前已知isoflavonoids 的其中一種結構genistein，能透過抑制tyrosine kinase而達到抗發炎的作用。全身性紅斑性狼瘡(Systemic Lupus Erythematosus , 簡稱SLE)，會產生自體抗體侵犯全身各器官組織，其中最常見的包括皮膚、關節、腎臟和中樞神經系統等造成慢性發炎的疾病。故本研究目的為探討補充山藥(Dioscorea alata L. cv. Tainung No.2)對於自體免疫疾病病情的影響。本實驗分成兩部分：生命期試驗及免疫功能測定試驗。
生命期試驗使用三個月大的MRL/lpr雌鼠分成七組，分別為餵食AIN-76飼料為控制組、每公斤飼料含38 g熟山藥粉為Dcook-10組、每公斤飼料含108g熟山藥粉為Dcook-30組、管餵山藥乙酸乙酯萃物每公斤體重5.3mg為Daea-5組、每公斤體重10.6mg為Daea-10組、每公斤體重30mg為Daea-30組及管餵tamoxifen每公斤體重375

Phytoestrogens have been found to exert anti-inflammatory activity in various in vitro and in vivo models. Yam, rich in phytoestrogens, is distributed mainly in the tropical and subtropical regions of the world. To investigate the effect of yam (Dioscorea alata L. cv.
