In today’s marketplace, the need of variety of TFT-LCD products increases drastically, which boosts the usage of LCD bezels. When the size of one type of TFT-LCD products changes, the bezel and its molding must be redesigned. In order to reduce the time spent in product development, this thesis aims to use Pro/ENGINEER to develop a rapid-response press-die design system for LCD bezel. First of all, the concept of top-down design in Pro/ENGINEER is employed to construct the parent-child relationship between the geometric model of sheet metal of bezel and its progressive dies. Pro/Toolkit and MFC of Visual C++ are also used in this research to undertake the task of system implementation. Under the current developed system, the user can focus on adjusting design parameters of LCD bezel. The system will then automatically, and rapidly, regenerate the geometric model of bezel and its progressive dies in response to the change of design parameters. Once the geometric model of progressive dies is established, standard mold parts will be automatically assembled to corresponding mold plates. Different types of mold parts can be selected in need base. When the selected parts are assembled, the system will remove the interfering areas between the parts and the plates. At last the system will conduct interference checking for the progressive dies. The use of the developed system helps reduce the time needed in the design of bezel and the development of its dies.
