經濟學者認為,產出的增加來自生產要素投入的增加或生產技術的進步。廠商從事研發活動可以持續改善以及提升現有產品與製程,能帶來生產技術的進步,是生產效率提升與經濟成長之重要因素之一,尤其對高科技或研究導向的公司特別重要。本研究主要依據Battese and Coelli(1995)之隨機邊界模型為主要架構,採用2001年至2005年之追蹤資料,針對台灣地區液晶顯示器產業生產技術效率進行探討,並透過技術無效率迴歸模型探討持有專利權數、研發資本存量及研發外溢效果等變數是否對廠商技術無效率有影響,並進而影響技術效率。本文實證結果如下:(1)Translog生產函數比Cobb-Douglas生產函數更能描述台灣LCD產業的生產情形。(2)面版類別廠商規模報酬大於1,具有規模經濟。(3)LCD產業內研發資本存在外溢效果。(4)台灣LCD產業2001年至2005年之平均技術效率為0.586,廠商效率最低為0.331,效率最高為0.971。整體而言,面版類別廠商整體技術效率相較比較高。本研究的結論可提供LCD產業參考,本研究的方法可嘗試於對其他產業進行研究。
The economist believed in the increasing output is coming from the increasing factors of production or technology progress. The firm is engaged in the research and development activity can improve the existing products and the manufacturing processes continuously. Then the energy brings technology progress is one of the important attributes to promote the production efficiency and economic growth. It is more important in high tech or R&D-oriented corporations. This research mainly adopts Battese and Coelli’s (1995) model of stochastic frontier production function, attempts to investigate technical efficiency for the LCD industry in Taiwan, and uses panel data from 2001 to 2005. At the same time, the technical inefficiency model is used to discuss the variables of the quantities of patents, R&D capital stock, and R&D spillover effect. These are whether influential to the firm’s technical inefficiency, and then improve to the technology efficiency. The empirical results have indicated forth findings: (1) the Translog production function compared to the Cobb-Douglas production function is more suitable for describing the Taiwan LCD industry. (2) The returns to scale about LCD panel category is bigger than 1, means it is economies of scale. (3) R&D spillover effect is existence in the LCD industry. (4) The average of technical efficiency is 0.586 in Taiwan LCD industry from 2001 to 2005, and firm’s efficiency lowest is 0.331; highest is 0.971. And the panel category has higher technology efficiency than other categories. Finally, make a suggestion according to the study result as a guide to the LCD industry, and the methodology could try to apply in other industry.
