There has been a significant emigration trend in Taiwan starting from the early 1980’s, and the main reasons for migrating to Canada are to obtain better education and natural environment for their children. However, in recent years, there is an increasing number of returning Taiwanese migrants from Canada. Moreover, some of these Taiwanese migrants are becoming snowbirds who constantly move back and forth between Taiwan and Canada.

This research discusses the movement and adaptation of Taiwanese migrants who returned from Canada or constantly move back and forth between two societies. Qualitative research method is employed to analyze and interpret the data from in-depth interviews which are carried out by interviewing ten Taiwanese migrants who have returned from Canada or constantly move between Taiwan and Canada.

This research indicates that Taiwanese migrants move constantly between Taiwan and Canada because of weather, economical, medical, and family reasons. Although some Taiwanese migrants returned to Taiwan as their children settle down here, they are still in contact with Canadian society.

Due to the first generation migrants’ different experiences in two culture/societies of Taiwan and Canada, they unavoidably need to adapt to various aspects of their environments, such as languages, family structures and people networks, etc. These adaptations influence their decisions of settling in either side of these two societies or just becoming snowbirds. In addition, the whereabouts of their children has great influence on their decision making.
