Over the past decades as information technology continues to play an important role that businesses depend on for improving their competitive edge, information technology outsourcing has been a product derived alongside the evolvement in the business environment under such prevailing trend, and a viable strategic option that businesses turn to in hope of creating greater corporate value. Nevertheless, when it comes to choosing the outsourcing vendor, it is compelling for businesses to treat the task stringently in regard to a business’s overall performance. While to vendors that provide the outsourcing service, how best to stand out from the many competing service provides to win over the business clients remains an urgent topic. Similar studies in the past tend to offer preliminary solution proposals but rarely attempt to discern the preferential factors and the relative importance (weight) of the various factors in a business’s evaluating and choosing an information system outsourcing vendor broaching from the viewpoint of preference. In light of which, the study attempts to locate a tendency preferential combination and the relative importance of which in a business’s evaluating and choosing information outsourcing vendor by adopting the conjoint analysis method in a bid to provide businesses with a more comprehensive solution on the subject.

The study has adopted archival review and analytical sorting to derive the study’s research framework in anticipation to future explore tangibly whether different information system outsourcing modes would affect the preferential structure for the consideration factors when evaluating and choosing the outsourced vendor, and also to examine the correlation between the preference structure and information outsourcing performance. The study samples has the polling subjects focusing on the information personnel at the direct information units and related operating units of a local financial holding company’s property insurance, life insurance, banking, securities and futures, financial holding divisions, and the questionnaire is distributed and surveyed in two stages. Stage one survey aims to screen for the determining the key selection preferential tendency and the selection level, which is then used to design stage two’s formal questionnaire.

The information derived from analyzing the recalled valid questionnaires reveals that information outsourcing vendors commanding a development and maintenance capability, swift response service level, and offering completion guarantee and an outstanding quality level are able to receive the maximum level of preference. Moreover, the different consideration factors (the preferential tendency structure) taken by the different outsourcing modes and the preferential group have also been found with conclusive results through further analysis. Lastly, the study itemizes the research limitation the study encounters, and offers subsequent researchers with study focus and recommendations.
