Logistics outsourcing has increasingly become a popular alternative to the traditional logistics service mode. There is an initial tendency to overstate the benefit, and underestimate the risk incurred. Evaluation of logistics outsourcing risk has been emphasized by decision makers from organizations.
The relationship between the vendor and buyer in the outsourcing arrangement has moved from transactional based to strategic alliance. The relationship between them has become closer than before. However, all the logistics services, simple or complex, seemed to be provided by the same service personnel within a moderate relationship leading to increased cost as well as general service problem. This kind of problem result from relationship it self is called relationships risk.
Most of the past studies focus on the antecedents of relationship risk. The impact of relationship risk has seldom been studied. We investigate the impact of relationship risk by using the data of Taiwanese apparel wholesalers. We combined transaction cost theory (TCT) and resource based view (RBV), which have been argued that they are complementary. However, the complementary nature of each theory has never been empirical verified. This study fill the gap to verified the complementary nature of these tow theories.
We use the data of Taiwanese apparel wholesaler to empirically verified our risk model. There were 134 usable samples. The result of our study shows that relationship risk has positive impact on asset risk and competence risk while asset risk also has positive impact on competence risk.
