Whole body vibration exercise is more-and- more popularly used in training athlete’s strength and power. However, inadequate researches have been documented in the relationship between applied frequencies and their body resonance responses among different athletes. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the perceived exertion and response of athlete’s body during different frequencies of vertical whole-body vibration. Methods: subjects included 4 type athletes from Tai Chi (N=12), Chinese Martial Arts (N=16), wrestling and Judo (N=16), weight-lifting and body building (N=15). This study used the Dactron Photo II and 4 accelerometers (PCB piezotronics) placed on the platform, tibial tuberosity, shoulder and head to collect the data of acceleration and transmissibility. Motion Analysis System and Borg 10 points scale to collect and calculate the transmissibility of different parts of body and intensity of vibration by subject’s feel. T&T Medilogic plantar pressure system was used to collect the COP (center of pressure) during WBV. The statistical ANOVA was used to compare the independent variables among 4 groups. The research concluded that the effect of WBV would be different on different sport subjects’ perceived exertion and the response of athlete’s body. The weight-lifting group will stronger than others that may be relate to the angle and stiffness of lower extremity and body weight. The tibial tuberosity and knee joint have the maximal transmissibility at 16Hz that may be the resonance of knee. This research suggested that the whole body vibration need to reduce the amplitude below 2mm and elevate the frequency above 20Hz that can avoid the danger of resonance and reach the benefit of training effect. The whole body vibration training need to consider the nature of sport, body weight, muscle stiffness, the angle of lower extremity and the ability of balance to set up the frequency, amplitude and duration of whole body vibration.
