Abstract
The Subject of this research is on the wood-fired works of Hsieh Cheng-Husing. Wood-firing was one of the original techniques to fire ceramic ware in the past. However, traditional technique to fire ceramic has been replacing with gas, electric and more other kilns because of the change of aesthetic sensibility, time, to isolate the flyash, the random marks of the fire to destroy the pottery ware with the sagger. But under such a state, it focuses on Hsieh Cheng-Husing how to find out his personal ceramic style from the traditional technique to fire ceramic. He studies from Hanpao Kiln which reveals the characteristic of Taiwan wood-firing until today, a succession of change and thinking on the creation, no matter the pursuit of characteristic of wood-fire, on the other hand, rest on the model idea of modern ceramics broken through constantly. Therefore, it studies on creation, firing, shaping, model idea of Hsieh Cheng-Husing to appears the personal style of wood-fired, and take off the technology and myth of Japanese wood-fired style back to the wood-fired works of ceramicist. By analyzing wood-fired works and statement from Hsieh Cheng-Husing to unfold the uniqueness of wood-fired works further, for this reason, through the contrast of the essence of creation and different style with feature idea of the works of Chiou Chien-Ching, Tseng Wen-Sheng. In the same time we could find out wood-fired ceramists use ash, fire, clay, kiln of firing elements to demonstrate honest simplicity and unpretentiousness in their works. Wood-fired works not only in seeking wood ashes, marks of the fire, expression of clay, wood-fired ceramists want viewers to experience the author's creation intention and emotion expression from their fired works, and make texture variation in different model vocabularies, ashes, fire and clay.
