Menopause is the natural part of women’s life. Women need well-established information system to assist self-care and decision making while their physical, psychological and social status might change. Women have gradually accustomed to search health information on the internet, which contains characteristics of rapidity and versatility. Women of menopause will certainly benefit from the websites.
We conducted content analysis on the subjects and functions from nine menopause-related websites to construct a questionnaire for the survey of the Taiwan’s internet women to assess their needs.
The content analysis results of nine menopausal websites can be identified with 29 elements in four dimensions: information of Menopausal Basics, Menopausal Symptom, Menopausal Treatment and Prevention, and Menopausal References. And ten functions of diversity websites. We collected a total of 285 with mean age of 36 from the web-based questionnaire. The results of survey are: (1) the main community is internet women of 40-49 ages. (2) the most information needs are the menopause symptoms of psychology, muscular and bone degeneracy, vaginal and urinary incontinence. (3) news, books, and journals are preferred reference types. (4) the most requirements of website functions are consulting experts, self-assessment and FAQ. (5) the information needs of diet and nutrition supplement are higher than hormone replacement treatment.
