The domestic economic development has long been focused primarily on the small and medium enterprises (SME). The development of these innovative enterprises imposes a great breakthrough in the domestic economic market. According to the White Paper on Small and Medium Enterprises in Taiwan, the number of business startup activities has increased from 701,839 companies in 1982 to 1,244,099 companies in 2006, demonstrating a positive growth trend among domestic business startup activities. Based on the above figures, it is understandable that to achieve the goal of starting up a successful business, efforts must be put in to discover potential opportunities.

The correlation between the entrepreneur’s social capitals, absorption capacity and a priori knowledge and the business opportunity alert is investigated in our research. Questionnaire surveys are conducted for entrepreneurs or people who had business startup experiences in the past. A total of 315 effective samples are collected for analysis.

It is discovered in the result that there is only a partial correlation between the entrepreneur’s personal social capitals and the acquirement of a priori knowledge and entrepreneurial opportunity alert. However there is a significant correlation between the absorption capacity and the acquirement of a priori knowledge and entrepreneurial opportunity alert. Therefore, it is expected that the direction of our research will provide relevant information for the entrepreneurial researches as well as subsequent studies.
