The thinking method of product family derives form building variety product and cost management. By sharing the common platform, it provides different functions upon different modules in order to introduce a series of product family. It not only can provide customers fully choices, but also can rapidly response market demands. As well in campus environment, it also had used a series of family products for teaching of designated topic. On the one hand, it can extend previous research results; on the other hand, it can use the actual efforts to be the base of teaching, more and over, it can generate innovation and improvement. Consequently, the study focus on product family, the main purpose is to explore the relationship of product family, innovation performance, learning, and work environment.
The study population included the teams who perform well in the department of mechanical engineering and electrical engineering in Southern Taiwan University. A total of 210 questionnaires were hand delivered and 158 of them were returned. Of the returned questionnaires, 18 were incomplete and the remaining 140, valid and complete, were used for quantitative analysis. The useable response rate was 66.6%.
The results of the study find that product family is useful to enhance learning and to build work environment, and by learning and building of work environment will be useful to innovation performance. But if lacks of resources and the school’s respect, it will have some obstacles to innovation performance. Finally, according to the results, this study proposes some suggestions to departments, teachers, students, and follow-up researches in the future. And it will be useful to help the school promoting innovation education, enhancing innovation performance, and fostering talents of industries required.
