為了瞭解是哪些因素導致受刑人在機構中產生監獄化之現象,本研究採取多面向觀點,以監獄化癥候、對機構與管教人員敵意態度及道德脫離感為探測監獄化之指標,並藉由剝奪模式及輸入模式之內容測量其與監獄化指標之關係,以期發現造成監獄化現象之成因,並比較出剝奪模式與輸入模式何者之解釋力為高。
本研究在研究方法上採取量化研究,共使用了單因子變異量分析、探索式因素分析、驗證性因素分析、迴歸方程式及SEM結構方程式等統計方法,施測時間為九十七年四月,於彰化監獄進行預試,共回收60份有效問卷,經過問卷的信校度分析產生正式問卷後,於九十七年五月於台中監獄及彰化監獄進行正式施測,共回收有效問卷276份。
研究結果發現在剝奪模式和輸入模式上皆對於監獄化指標有所影響,但兩模式在解釋力上隨著監獄化指標的不同而有相異的結果,在剝奪模式方面,其可以解釋監獄化癥候發生的原因以及影響了對於機構與管教人員敵意程度,在輸入模式方面,則除了可以解釋監獄化癥候發生的原因外,亦可解釋受刑人發生道德脫離感的原因。研究者認為此差異驗證了剝奪模式及輸入模式的核心理論,剝奪模式較可以解釋因為機構方面所影響的監獄化情形,但在加入了測量有關心理層面的指標後,則輸入模式在解釋這些屬於較個人特質所影響的因素時佔了上風,但整體而言,仍以剝奪模式的解釋力為佳。
