在純點對點傳輸的網路環境中,因為使用者加入和離開的不確定性,對於即時影片的串流服務是觀看品質的威脅,目前在伺服器和用戶端模式之間的流量傳輸成本的降低和提高系統服務環境的穩定性,代理伺服器快取的技術扮演著關鍵性的角色,本論文的研究將代理伺服器快取的技術利用在多媒體的串流上,以期能夠降低伺服器流量傳輸的成本和負擔,並藉由多個代理伺服器的共同合作來大幅提升系統服務的穩定和品質;面對目前的異質性使用者的網路環境,採用階層式的影片編碼方式,可以提高服務的使用率。

本系統主要解決了兩個問題,第一,我們開發完善的機制來支援可擴充性的代理伺服器,代理伺服器之間的合作將帶來更好的服務品質並有效的降低硬體成本,第二,影片快取演算法設計使可擴充性的影片編碼能夠有效的應用於代理伺服器上,並依照使用者的終端設備的能力來提供不同影片品質的串流服務。

本系統因為代理伺服器和影片編碼的可擴充性,提供了高彈性的系統環境和服務異質端的使用者;在代理伺服器運作方面,本系統設計符合傳輸低成本效益和多個代理伺服器同步機制;我們也開發了影片分割演算法,提高影片快取分配的在系統中存取成本效益;本系統提供了一個比純點對點網路環境更穩定的服務,也有效的控制和降低硬體上的成本。
On-demand video streaming requires quality of service. However, it's difficult to achieve this goal in peer-to-peer systems. On the other hand, the client-server architecture incurs high transmission cost. Currently, the proxy caching technology plays an important role for reducing transmission cost and server loading. In addition, it's hard to support flexible and efficient video streaming service in heterogeneous network environments.

To address these issues, we develop a novel proxy caching algorithm, which consists of the three parts: 1) collaboration scheme between multiple proxies; 2) adaptive receiving scheme for multiple video layers; 3) efficient proxy caching algorithm.

With the proposed method, the transmission cost between server and clients can be reduced by proxy caching and the collaboration between proxies. In addition, the reliability of video streaming can be improved by peer-to-peer streaming and adaptive video receiving scheme.
