As the pressure of product gross profit is tightening, the prosperity of the high-tech industry is gradually decline. Most high-tech companies face the impact of international competition in recent years. All of the enterprises start to think about the problem of cost reduction and competitiveness improvement. In order to respond to government’s policy that employee profit sharing is regarded as expense, each wafer fabrication starts to cut its annual expenditure, and raise its productivity to obtain a greater shareholder benefit. Therefore, it will be a big topic for enterprise to reduce the manpower cost and maintain its productivity. The manufacturing department is the biggest section of a fabrication, all of the technicians take about 1/3 manpower of the whole company, so the number of technicians becomes the target when the wafer fabrication wants to reduce its personnel cost. Therefore, a contractual personnel appears and then emerging with the tide of the times; in addition to reduce the fabrication cost, also provide the mechanism for flexible manpower arrangement.
This research takes the wafer fabrication X company as the research object, through questionnaire, interview and statistics analytical research method to inquire into four questions: (1) the relations between contractor’s age and educational background (2) the work expectation of contractor (3) the work scope of contractor (4) the manpower ratio of contractor in each fabrication’s production line. Through questionnaire and interview, the results are as following. The major education background of contractors is senior high school, even under, and the range of age for them is between forty and fifty. However, five percent of graduate join the contractor market after the unemployed rate is increasing. Secondary, the kinds of motives for contractor are salary, job stability and job environment. On the other hand, it doesn’t have obvious relation with marriage. In currently the major job categories of contractors are transportation, production, and clean. Besides, the percentage of contractor in a wafer fabrication is related to level of tool automation. Twelve-inch fabrication has more contractors than eight-inch fabrication. But recruiting, training and turnover rate will be the major management issues for X Company.
