The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationships among silencing the self, love styles and relationship satisfaction of 268 college students. Instruments in this study included the Silencing the Self Scale, the short version of the Love Attitude Scale and the Relationship Assessment Scale. T-test, Pearson product-moment correlation analysis and canonical correlation analysis were used to analyze the data. The main findings were as follows:

1. Gender differences on silencing the self, love styles, and relationship satisfaction: There were clear differences in the possession of “silencing the self”, “divided self” and “care as self-sacrifice” between different sexes. There were clear distinctions in the possessions of “eros”, ”ludus”, and “agape” between different gender attitudes. There was significant difference in the relationship satisfaction of different genders.
2. Three product-moment correlations among college students’ silencing the self, love styles and relationship satisfaction were conducted and the following results were obtained: There is no correlations between silencing the self and relationship satisfaction. When college students had higher “eros”, ”ludus”, and “agape”, they had higher relationship satisfaction. When college students had higher “care as self-sacrifice”, less “externalized self-perception”, they had higher “eros”, ”ludus”, and “pragma”.
3. Two canonical correlations among female college students’ silencing the self and love styles: When female college students had higher scores in Silencing the Self Scale, they had higher “agape” and “mania”. Besides, when female college students especially had higher “divided self”, they had higher “ludus”.

The findings and implication are discussed.
Key words: silencing the self, love styles, and relationship satisfaction
