In the rapidly changing and highly uncertain business environment, the buyers and sellers in supply chain may join strategic alliances to increase its competitive advantage and create win-win strategy. However, many firms are reluctant to join strategic alliances. It is worthy to seek the reasons why the firms hesitate to join the strategic alliances. This study aims to explore the impact factors of join intention from perspective of purchasing firms, particularly the supplier-related uncertainty if truly lead to lower willingness to join strategic alliance. This is the main propose of this study. Based on literature review, this study has classified the perceived uncertainty into perceived relationship uncertainty and perceived environment uncertainty, and integrates agency theory, trust, and supply risk to investigate the influence of purchasing firms’ join intention. The findings suggested that “fears of opportunism” have the positive influence on perceived relationship uncertainty. On the contrary, perceived relationship uncertainty will be reduced if purchasing firm can trust in supplier. Price concerns, supply concerns, and delivery concerns had positive influence on perceived environment uncertainty. In addition, perceived relationship uncertainty had a significant negative influence on join intention directly. Perceived environment uncertainty had negative influence on join intention through perceived relationship uncertainty.
