The main purpose of this research was to explore the cognition of gender identity of senior elementary school students in I-Lan county. The objectives of the research are : (1) Finding out the perceptions of gender identity of senior elementary school students.(2) Exploring the correlative factors of gender identity among backgrounds of students’ family, peer relationships of the senior elementary school students.(3) According to the conclusion of this study, some recommendations are presented to Educational Bureau, school administrators, as well as teachers for curriculum plans of gender education. This study was based on a survey. A total of 601 fifth and sixth grade students, sampling from public elementary schools in I-Lan county. The instrument is “Children Gender Identity Questionnaire” designed by researcher. Data obtained in this study were analyzed by using t-test and one-way ANOVA.
The main findings of this study were summarized as follows: 1.The girls are significant superior to the boys in all aspects of gender identity. 2.The senior elementary school students of firstborn or only child are significant superior to those of the youngest child on homosexuality views. 3.The senior elementary school students of good peer relationships are significant superior to those of only getting along with male peer relationships in all aspectof gender identity. 4.There were no significant differences in the family structures of the senior elementary school students. 5.There were no significant differences in the brothers and sisters numbers of the senior elementary school students. Finally, according to the findings, this study provides several suggestions for education and future studies.
