巴赫的《郭德堡變奏曲》是巴羅克時期最龐大的一首鍵盤作品。它展現出巴赫對當時不同音樂風格、寫作技法的了解與熟悉，融合並拓展鍵盤技巧的各種可能，總結了巴羅克時期的變奏曲創作；以今日的眼光來看，《郭德堡變奏曲》的重要性無庸置疑。然而，在音樂史上，這首樂曲的評價與接受度並非一直如此。整體而言，從1741年出版之後，《郭德堡變奏曲》並沒有受到太多注意，直到二十世紀，其價值才逐漸受到肯定，並因為顧爾德（Glenn Gould, 1932-1982）1955年的錄音，才受到舉世注目。然而，早在二十世紀初，布梭尼（Ferruccio Busoni, 1866-1924）便已看出此曲的價值，不但將其列入音樂會曲目，並為此曲創作了適合於音樂會及現代鋼琴上演奏的改編版本。
布梭尼改編的《郭德堡變奏曲》創作於1914年，1915年由出版商Breitkopf & Härtel出版。布梭尼以鋼琴家、指揮家、作曲家、理論家、教育家等多重身分，活躍於十九世紀末、二十世紀初的國際樂壇，曾編輯、改編許多巴赫作品，影響甚鉅；詮釋觀點自有其美學淵源與實務背景。布梭尼改編之《郭德堡變奏曲》，不但是他對於巴赫作品詮釋觀點的體現，也為鋼琴家提供了另外一種詮釋的思考方向。但目前在國內外卻幾乎無法找到以此曲為主題的研究資料，有聲資料亦寥寥可數。究其原因，不同時代間詮釋風格的轉變，應是最大的原因。本篇論文即由此方向，分析布梭尼對於《郭德堡變奏曲》的各種改編手法、內容與特色，探討此曲至今未受重視的可能原因，以及對於此曲定位與價值的重新省思。
