“Absorptive capacity” means the ability of a firm to recognize the value of new, external information, to assimilate it, and to apply it to commercial ends. The higher a firm’s absorptive capacity is, the more it’s able to handle the external environment and guide the knowledge into the firm. And this can enhance the firm’s competitive advantages. Thus, how to promote the firm’s absorptive capacity to create its distinctive competitiveness is an important issue. In this study, that the firm’s absorptive capacity will be affected by different knowledge sources, including the internal and external sources. From the internal source, firms with higher knowledge sharing propensity will help themselves to raise their own absorptive capacity. From the external source, firms that have better inter-organizational relationships will also raise its absorptive capacity. Moreover, this study discusses the role of formalization playing between firm’s absorptive capacity and competitive advantages. Thus, this study mainly discusses the relationships between firm’s absorptive capacity and competitive advantages, how the knowledge sources influences the firm’s absorptive and if the degree of formalization have been interfered by absorptive capacity and competitive advantages.
