本論文透過野外採集與實驗室的觀察紀錄進行短身大眼蟹(Macrophthalmus abbreviatus) 的生長與繁殖研究。本蟹雌雄個體的平均體型沒有顯著差異。終年可進行脫殼,但以11月和6月脫殼數量最多。雄蟹平均脫殼成長大小大於雌蟹,雄蟹脫殼成長大小隨體型增加稍微增加,雌蟹則接近定值。依據第二性徵的相對生長變化與最小抱卵雌蟹體型,最小性成熟雄蟹體型為頭胸甲寬18.1 mm,雌蟹為頭胸甲寬14.2 mm。短身大眼蟹的繁殖季為1到10月,抱卵高峰為3 - 4月。雌蟹抱卵量與其體型成正比。雌蟹釋幼時機與月亮週期沒有顯著關聯。抱卵雌蟹會在地表攝食。雌蟹釋幼和蛻殻後皆可未經交配而再度排卵,部分雌蟹則在釋幼後進行蛻殼。雌蟹生殖孔的孔蓋在釋幼完畢後短暫時間內是呈現可活動的狀態。從標記回收的結果得知,短身大眼蟹在脫殼間期可連續抱卵繁殖。
The main purpose of this research is to study the growth and reproduction of Macrophthalmus abbreviatus through field survey and laboratory observation. There was no significant difference between the average carapace width of males and females. The exuviae of M. abbreviatus can be found all year round, with the molting peaks occurring both in June and November. The average absolute molt increment of males was larger than in females, with increments slightly increasing with size whereas increments were the same for different sized females. According to the relative growth study of secondary sexual characters and the smallest ovigerous female, the smallest mature size was 18.1 mm carapace width (CW) for males and 14.2 mm carapace width for females. The breeding season was from January to October, with the peak occurring in March to April. Fecundity of females increased with female size. Larval release timing is not synchronized with the lunar cycle. Ovigerous females can feed on ground surface in the wild. After larval release or molting, females can lay eggs without mating again and some females molt soon after larval release. The opercula of gonopore became temporarily movable after larval release. According to the result of mark- recaptured method, females can continue breeding during an intermolt period.
