Simon Effect is when you present spatial sign toward left, then left hand or foot response will faster than use right hand or foot. This is a kind of stimulus and response spatial correspondence or consistent effect. Also SNARC (Spatial Numerical Association of Response Code) effect means use left hand to response to small number (eg. 1, 2) is faster than use right hand. And right hand is faster on larger number (eg. 8, 9) response. Notebaert (2006) use double path model to explain both Simon Effect and SNARC effect, and they all relate with the spatial mapping and sharing the overlapping spatial representation. Our studies want to know the relationship between Simon Effect and SNARC effect through the Chinese spatial word (left / right) mediation. In experiment one, we make new rule to let subject practice if number is bigger than 5, then press left key. The result is we can reverse the direction of SNARC effect. In experiment two we present the Chinese word of spatial naming (eg. left, right) and successfully induced the Simon Effect. But it was not influence the SNARC effect. In experiment three we manipulate the spatial line direction of SNARC effect, to see if it will influence the Chinese spatial word Simon Effect. And the result is no influence. And we explain the results support that Chinese spatial word and spatial mental numeric line might be independent and parallel, and not share the same mental spatial representation.
