Sexual offending remains to be a potential problem of modern social security, and crime rate is also increased year by year.In the early years, most studies have been aimed at classifying participants into different kinds of legal victims, including adult rapist、child molesters and incest , but according to clinical experiences and studies displayed these three groups of offenders are heterogeneous in behaviors and psychological traits . Although previous researchers had tried to discuss the association between intimacy deficits and interpersonal competence or emotional traits in sexual offenders; however, the results are usually discrepant ,especially on studies of intimacy deficits, and many reasons could cause these results. It was suggested that clarifying these heterogeneity groups effectively leads to better interventions in the future .The literatures review indicated that attachment theory from psychology is an adequate research model. The present research lies in adult attachment theory that attempted to explain intimacy deficits in sexual offenders more effectively.
Purposes:(1) To test whether there is any difference between sexual offenders in adult attachment style ,and whether the adult attachment style and the choice of different sexual assault victim was correlated;(2) Whether adult attachment style comparing with recent legal classification which discriminates intimacy deficits, egotism and aggression in sexual offenders is more effective;(3) To analysis the role of adult attachment in intimacy deficits, egotism and aggression ,and to refer to a better clinical treatment and intervention in the future for offenders.
Conclusion:(1)It shows that there is a significant correlation among adult attachment style, incest and child molesters; however, the rapist are not;(2)Adult attachment style compared with crime patterns could make a better explanation to various variables, such as intimacy deficits, egotism and aggression;(3)Adult attachment seems to be a mediator among early life experience, intimacy deficits and egotism.
Discussion: The result supports that adult attachment style could make a better explanation to many variables, such as intimacy deficits, egotism and aggression. Different attachment styles behave in different patterns. It also finds that although early experience of sexual offenders are meaningful, only through the mediator of adult attachment style, does one become intimacy deficits and aggression at present. The results of this research help to provide a new intervention and classification for sexual crime, and hope future intervention can be more effective to discriminate different categories of crimes, and use different effective treatments for their needs.
