In recent years characterized by constantly changing environment and management, the concept of sustainability requires organizations to enhance the efficiency of project management and innovation to be adaptive. Many managers have realized that effective management capabilities improve organizational performance which is one of major sources of market competitive advantage. However, most of the current arguments focus on how to improve project management performance or how to apply innovation capability to response to market changes and to gain efficiency. Meanwhile, the impact of project management on innovation performance is neglected.
This study aims to examine the influence of knowledge management resources on project management capabilities, then, investigate whether project management capability after being simulated by knowledge management resources improves innovation performance; simultaneously, explore the direct impact of knowledge management resources on innovation performance.
Many scholars believe knowledge management enhances innovation performance; however, there is a lack of literature that mentions mediators or moderators existing in this relationship. Therefore, this study investigates the impact of knowledge management on innovation, and then adds project management capability as mediator to examine whether project management capability strengthens innovation performance. The findings of this study confirm investments in knowledge management resources increase project management capabilities, which in turn enhances innovation performance. The domestic high-tech industry of R & D in this study provides businesses with references and recommendations on how to improve project management capability and innovation performance.
