Drawing on the resource-based view (RBV), this study develops a framework by considering how a supply chain’s (SC) performance is affected by a firm’s absorptive capacity and IT-enabled resources, in terms of backend integration, partner support, and managerial skills. In addition to the direct effect of the above resources and SC performance, this paper also investigates how the above relationships are contingent on institutional environment, in terms of regulatory, normative, and cognitive structures. Based on 168 respondents from Taiwan, most of the proposed hypotheses are supported as expected, showing that the SC performance is influenced by the resources. The implications for both researchers and managers are discussed.
