當建置植基於ZigBee無線感測網路的監控系統時,若監控地點橫跨不同區域,通常每一監控區域必需佈署一個ZigBee無線感測網路,也需要一部區域伺服器(Local Server)來連接ZigBee協調器,以便就近處理該區域的感測資料,並與中央監控伺服器(Central Monitoring and Control Server)通訊。當監控區域很多時(例如軍事庫房的監控),此種每一區建置一部區域伺服器(Local Server)的做法,將導致系統整體建置成本大幅提高,而且區域伺服器僅負責處理該區域的感測資料,造成運算資源的浪費。因此,本論文利用嵌入式系統結合有線網路與無線通訊技術,開發了一個可用於ZigBee監控系統之智慧型閘道器(Intelligent Gateway),以有效改善上述缺失。具體地,我們利用可攜式嵌入式系統來開發閘道器,以降低建置成本;本閘道器除了具備ZigBee協調器通訊外,亦可透過有線網路(Ethernet)及無線通訊(GSM)與遠端之伺服器通訊。同時,閘道器的有線網路通訊及無線網路通訊間可以自動備援,提升通訊功能之可用性。因此,本智慧型閘道器可以取代區域伺服器,用於延伸ZigBee無線感測網路的傳輸距離。最後,我們於國防大學理工學院建置軍事庫房監控範例,成功驗證了本閘道器在延伸無線感測網路傳輸距離及通訊備援傳輸之有效性。
For constructing a ZigBee-based monitoring and control (MC) system to monitor different places across various regions, usually we need to deploy a ZigBee wireless sensor network (WSN) and a local server in each region. The local server is used to connect with the ZigBee coordinator, process sensor data locally, and communicate with the remote central MC server. When the number of monitored regions is large, for example in the case of monitoring military storerooms, such an approach that uses a local server in each monitored region will significantly increase the total system construction cost. Also, the local server only needs to process the sensor data for its located region, thereby wasting the computing resource. Thus, this study utilizes several technologies, such as Embedded System, Wired Networking, and Wireless Communication, to develop an intelligent gateway for the ZigBee-based MC system so as to improve the aforementioned shortcomings. Specifically, we use an embedded system to develop the gateway for reducing the construction cost. In addition to the capability of communicating with the ZigBee coordinator, the gateway can communicate with the remote server through wired network (Ethernet) and wireless communication (GSM). Also, the wired network communication and the wireless communication of the gateway can automatically backup each other so that the gateway’s communication availability increases. Consequently, the developed intelligent gateway can replace the local server to extend the transmission distance of the ZigBee WSN. Finally, we construct a paradigm military-storeroom MC system at Chung Cheng Institute of Technology, National Defense University and successfully validate the efficacy of the developed gateway in terms of effectively extending the transmission distance of the ZigBee WSN and the communication-backup capability.
