The main purpose of this investigation is to observe the seasonal variations for metallic elements (arsenic species, Zn, Cr, Cu and Pb) in total suspended particles (TSP) and dry deposition at five characteristic sampling sites in central Taiwan during the years of 2009-2010. The samples were digested with hydrochloric acid (HCl) and nitric acid
(HNO3). Analyzed for arsenic species by ICP-MS, and analyzed for metals (Zn, Cr, Cu and Pb) by ICP-OES. The results indicated that the mean highest concentrations of metallic elements in TSP and dry deposition were both occurred at Quan-xing (industrial) sampling site, with many industrial factories under process around these regions, were a severe polluted areas. Regarding seasonal variation, the highest average seasonal variations for metallic elements (arsenic species, Zn, Cr, Cu and Pb) in TSP were occurred in winter and fall. The results also show that the low-wind conditions brought elevated concentrations of metallic elements (arsenic species, Zn, Cr, Cu and Pb) in fall and winter at these five sampling sites.
