The purpose of this study was to understand the antecedents of peoples’ adjustment in a different cultural environment. This study divided into four parts. Firstly, the relationship between cultural intelligence and cross-cultural adjustment were examined. Secondly, loneliness served as the moderator to test the relationship between cultural intelligence and cross-cultural adjustment. Thirdly, supervisor support was also another moderator to examine the relationship between cultural intelligence and cross-cultural adjustment. Lastly, three-way interactions among cultural intelligence, loneliness, and supervisor support on cross-cultural adjustment were demonstrated.
This study used purposive sampling to collect Philippine workers who worked in midland of Taiwan to respond the questionnaires. 950 questionnaires were distributed and 307 were valid samples. The returned rate was 32.32%.
The findings of the present study were as followed: first, cultural intelligence was significant positive related to cross-cultural adjustment; second, loneliness moderated the relationship between cultural intelligence and interaction adjustment; third, supervisor support moderated the relationship between cultural intelligence and work adjustment; and lastly, the result showed that there was a significant three-way interaction among cultural intelligence, loneliness and supervisor support on work adjustment. Limitation, recommendations, and conclusions were provided.
