胡椒科 (Piperaceae) 植物約8屬2,020種以上,分布全世界熱帶亞熱帶。本科因花、果、種子均細小,不易肉眼辨識,導致在物種鑑識上常有歧見且鑑定錯誤及學名誤用者甚多。
本研究調查臺灣產胡椒科植物野外族群及個體,檢視與查閱國內外標本館所藏之臘葉標本及數位影像,觀察其外觀形態與葉表皮顯微特徵,確認其各物種生育地環境與分布位置,並佐以數據分類法 (numerical taxonomic),針對各物種間之定性特徵進行分析。根據葉表皮SEM顯微形態特徵研究結果顯示葉表角質層紋飾、氣孔與保衛細胞類型、油腺細胞及被毛等特徵可作為物種間區分之參考;數量分類依物種之定性特徵可支持外觀形態上之分類。
依研究結果建議將臺灣產本科植物處理為2屬15種 (含1新種、2新位階處理與2歸化種),分列為椒草屬(Peperomia):椒草 (Peperomia japonica Makino)、臺灣椒草 (P. japonica Makino var. formosana (C. DC.) Kung, Lu and Hsieh stat. nov)、山椒草 (P. nakaharai Hayata)、草胡椒 (P. pellucida (L.) Kunth) 、小椒草 (P. tetraphylla (G. Forst.) Hook. &; Arn.)、蘭嶼椒草 (P. rubrivenosa C. DC.)、紅莖椒草 (P. sui Lin &; Lu);胡椒屬 (Piper):巴丹胡椒 (Piper arborescens Roxb.)、荖藤 (P. betle L.)、疏果胡椒 (P. interruptm Opiz) 、臺灣風藤 (P. kadsura (Choicy) Ohwi var. arboricola (C. DC.) Kung &; Lu stat. nov )、川上氏胡椒 (P. kawakamii Hayata)、紅頭胡椒 (P. lanyuense Kung, Lu &; Hsueh sp. nov)、新店胡椒 (P. sintenense Hatsusima)、臺灣胡椒 (P. taiwanense Lin &; Lu)、大圓葉胡椒 (P. umbellatum L. )。其中紅頭胡椒為本研究所發現之新種,臺灣椒草與臺灣風藤2種為新位階,草胡椒與荖藤2種為歸化種。
本文中提供臺灣產胡椒科植物學名考證、形態特徵描述、檢索表、地理分布、線繪圖、彩色照片、模式標本影像,期盼為植物分類等各相關研究基礎資料之參考。

Piperaceae, about 8 genera and 2,020 species, distributed extensively in pantropic and subtropic. Due to their flowers, fruits and seeds are small and not easy to identify, many debatable problems do exist in species identification and taxonomic treatment. Therefore their taxonomic studies were carried out by observing the plants in wild and reviewing specimens in herbaria, and coordinated with numerical taxonomic to revise the Piperaceae in Taiwan. And SEM characteristics of leaf surface were used for classification also.
The Piperaceae of Taiwan were treated as 15 taxa in 2 genera, including 1 new specie, 2 new status and 2 naturalized species, i.e. (Ⅰ) Peperomia (6 species, 1 variety specie and 1 naturized ): P. japonica Hayata, P. japonica Makino var. formosana (C. DC.) Kung, Lu and Hsieh stat. nov, P. nakaharai Hayata, P. pellucida (L.) Kunth (Naturalized), P. tetraphylla (G. Forst.) Hook. & Arn., P. rubrivenosa C. DC., P. sui Lin & Lu (Ⅱ) Piper (8 species, 1 variety specie and 1 naturized ): P. arborescens Roxb., P. betle L. (Naturalized), P. interruptm Opiz, P. kadsura (Choicy) Ohwi var. arboricola (C. DC.) Kung & Lu stat. nov, P. kawakamii Hayata, P. lanyuense Kung, Lu & Hsueh sp. nov, P. sintenense Hatsusima, P. taiwanense Lin & Lu, P. umbellatum L.
In this study, description of the species and keys to the genera and species, line drawing, color photos and type specimen images are given. Besides, the treatment of scientific name has been emphasized, the distribution and habitat of each species are also presented.
