The purpose of the study was to design the creative military recruit training. This study used a
quasi-experimental nonequivalent pretest-posttest design to examine the effects on thinking of
recruitment and creativity. Thirty-six soldiers from Political Warfare College, National Defense
University were particating, 17 were assigned to the experimental group and 19 to the control
group. The experimental group went through Creative Military Recruit Training once a week for 3
weeks, while those in the control group received General Military Recruit Training. “New
Creativity Test” and “Recruitment Thinking Assignment” were used as the assessment tools. “New
Creativity Test” were included pretest and posttest. After the training finished, “Recruitment
Thinking Assignment” was used as consensual assessment. All data were analyzed by one-way
MANCOVA. The qualitative data including “feedback questionnaires” and “focus group interview”
were also analyzed to examine the effects of the training The results are as follows: (a) experimental
group got significant higher scores in Fluency, Flexibility and Originality than control group on
New Creativity Test, (b) experimental group got significant higher scores in Innovation, Novelty,
Effort Attitude and Enthusiasm Attitude than control group on Recruitment Thinking Assignment,
but there was no significant effect in Feasibility and Value of Development, (c) qualitative analysis
of “feedback questionnaires” and “focus group interview” show that the experimental group and
control group have different opinions on “Change of Recruitment Attitude”, “Help of Military
Recruitment”, “Self-influence”, and “Recommendations and Expectations”. Some concrete
suggestions on recruit training, creativity improvement and research were also provided.
