This thesis is focus on complexity of local life and the becoming of business area as key elements, in order to verify the importance of geography relationship inside an area.Taking Shihlin Night Market as the example, are there any way of improvement beside urban redevelopment or limitless expansion itself? When we look upon its history of progression: from early local religious activities which attracted vendors to today’s night life entertainments, It had rich past started with banned by government, to self-manage, lead to government re-planning and finally settle to a specify location. It catalyzed into one of Taiwanese unique cultures. Most of business districts were professionally planned and managed by local organizations and their projects were too much consider of profit beneficial. Local business spaces improvement projects were about rearrange morning and night market in order to make it necessarily redeveloped. As the result, all vendors ended in a one new mall. But such change manipulated its fundamental environment: Every shops, vendor stands, even the touring paths was situate in it, there is no direct connection between local characteristic and people who live among. Such decision would lead to disappearance of local space of interest. Jian-Chen Roundabout and Lonshan temple were two best cases. So this research is to readjust night markets redeveloping into a mall. This experimental design was inspired by Walter Benjamin’s Flaneur and concept of parks with spatial characteristic. The design was aimed to create a space for staying on the unused second floor, and created a new path and entries and exits on the vertical circulations. It followed by maintaining ground floor activities for maximum public service in order to reduce demolishment of buildings to achieve of unnecessary rebuild and fit the need of life and tourist usage. The discovery of the experiment is that people were more likely to interact at each other because of their behaviors and activities in such space. The creation of space is to provide activities, the pocket spaces are formed by existing urban context. Therefore such theory of creation of urban space would be significant contribution to this experimental design realization and development.
