The purpose of this research is to investigate the effectiveness of music care on successful aging living in care institution.
An experimental design was used in this study. Thirty-four subjects (76.21ys±7.24ys) from a care institution in Chiayi City were observed. The experiment proceeded in two groups including the experiment group and the control group. For the experiment group, music care was used as a routine activity: one hour each time and twice a week for 12 weeks. The control group followed daily activities arranged by care institution. Before and after the experiments, the subjects’ data of Five-Time-Sit-to-Stand test, Timed-Up-and-Go test, Hand grip strength, Upper limb elevation test and questionnaire were recorded. The results showed that the experiment group has significant and positive improvement in physical, psychological and social aspects. It shows that music care have positive results in the promotion of successful aging.
The results suggest that the care institution can use music care as a regular activity for elders. In addition, future researches could explore the benefit of music care for elders based on this study.
