Wugu is with renowned furniture industry cluster in northern Taiwan. In this industry cluster, there is a special phenomenon among the furniture manufacturers: Isomorphism. Why these furniture manufacturers move toward isomorphism? Isomorphism between them is only characterization or substance? In order to answer such research problem from the viewpoints of organizational ecology, institutional theory, competitive dynamics, and resource-dependence, this study, on one hand, collected a wealth of secondary data; on the other hand, supplemented by field study and in-depth interview to proceed.
The results of this study: (1) Viewpoint of organizational ecology: newborn or small-scale manufacturers for furniture industry in Wugu to attach or around the vicinity of the indicator manufacturers, the manufacturers in the organizational pattern moves gradually toward isomorphism. (2) Viewpoint of institutional theory: because of the normative force of the furniture industry association and the furniture industry board of trade, finally, the corporate governance structure moves toward isomorphism. (3) Viewpoint of competitive dynamics: the furniture industry manufacturers by the absorption of knowledge and transformation, the manufacturers in the dynamic competitive strategy moves gradually toward isomorphism. (4) Viewpoint of resource-dependence: by mutual learning, imitation, vertical integration from upper, middle and lower level, the furniture manufacturers in the production and marketing distribution system moves gradually toward isomorphism. There are abounding theoretical and practical implications by Isomorphic phenomenon for the furniture industry manufacturers in Wugu.
