Cloud computing has attracted significant attention of both academics and practitioners since it was first introduced in 2006. Cloud computing can be regarded as a new form or the logical evolution in IT outsourcing. Based on the concept of providing internet services similar to the application service provider (ASP) model, cloud computing develops its own service models and deployment models by using techniques such as grid computing and utility computing, in order to achieve technological synergy effect. Although potential benefits of using cloud computing are remarkable, organizations still hesitate to use it. The reasons is because that the use of cloud computing would spur some challenges that organizations cannot conquer. Prior studies have pointed out that service availability, data security and privacy, and system standard and data transferability are the critical features of cloud computing that determine organizations’ choices of cloud suppliers. Additionally, organizational culture are recognized to have significant influence on the adoption of cloud computing.
Recent studies of cloud computing mainly focus on its economic benefits, technical application, and performance. Nevertheless, very few studies have investigated it from organizational point of view. A number of studies have pointed out the challenges of using cloud computing in organizations in Taiwan, and indicated that organizational culture is one of the key factors influencing organizations’ adoption of cloud computing. Consequently, this research use information system success model as a theoretical basis to develop a theoretical model for investigating and explaining the relationship between organizational culture and the challenges of using cloud computing in an organization in order to investigate organizations’ intention of using cloud computing.
Based on the survey data collected from 269 professionals recruited from the SMEs in Taiwan, this study validated the proposed theoretical model using the structural equation modeling technique. The results indicated that the system quality, information quality, and service quality of cloud computing services positively influence user satisfaction and intention to use. Additionally, user satisfaction serve as a significant mediator of the indirect effects of system quality, information quality, and service quality on intention to use. Regarding the challenges of using cloud computing, the construct of system standard and data transferability is found to be a significant moderator of the relationship between system quality and user satisfaction. Additionally, the construct of data security and privacy is found to be a moderator of the relationship between information quality and user satisfaction. However, service availability is not a significant moderator of the relationship between service quality and user satisfaction. With regard to the influence of organizational culture, system quality positively influences intention to use in entrepreneurial organization. However, system quality does not positively influence intention in formal organization. Additionally, information quality does not positively influence intention to use in both organizational cultures. Finally, the contributions of this study are discussed, along with its limitations and future research directions.
