With the enhancement of environmental awareness, organizations have noticed the importance of green supply chain management (GSCM). Many companies began to implement green supply chain management that it became a trend. The regulatory and competitive pressure also pushes firms to seriously carrying out GSCM. For example, Toyota and IBM have encouraged their Chinese suppliers to develop environmental management systems. As we know, companies in Taiwan play important roles in global electronic manufacturing supply chains because they are the largest partners of a lot world leading IT companies. They need to implement GSCM.
After surveying related literature, five main strategies are taken to implement GSCM, including eco-design, green purchasing, supplier environmental collaboration, and customer environmental collaboration. This study applies DEMATAL method to analizing the casual relationships among these five strategies and corresponding to sub-strategies in Taiwan electronic component manufacturing supply chains. It tends to identify the implementation sequences of these five main strategies and the sub-strategies as suggestions for companies with limited resources to implement GSCM. GSCM helps companies effectively allocate resources on strategies with higher priority and reduce the failure risk and implementation cost.
On the other hand, main benefits of GSCM are analyzed. DEMATEL is employed to investigate the casual relationships among main benefits so that companies can predict what benefits can be created first and what succeeding benefits will be brought by the preceding benefits. Knowing the casual relationships encourages companies to invest necessary resources in GSCM implementation because they know what return they will obtain. By understanding how to implement GSCM and knowing what return a firm can get, firms will have higher motivation to implement GSCM and increase success rate. Firms, therefore, can enhance the competitiveness and create sustainability.
