Cotton candy is a popular confectionery in amusement parks, carnivals and night markets. Most of the cotton candy machine is manually operated at outdoors, in which dust and dirt affect the quality and hygiene of cotton candies. Therefore, it is important to improve hygiene problem and decrease labor cost to attract more consumers. In this thesis, a temperature and humidity monitoring and control system is proposed for cotton candy machines to improve the production. Also, the operation inside the equipment is segregated from outside in order to prevent the cotton candy from pollution and dust. A healthy and fluffy cotton candy can therefore be formed and operated outdoors or in wild environment. Base on environmental information of detecting system, the proposed vending machine mainly adjusts to the best temperature and humidity for cotton candy and automatically produces qualified and customized single serving of the product according to customers’preference. In the proposed system, a humidity sensor, H500M, and a temperature sensor, LM35, are used to feed back corresponding information to a micro - control unit (MCU), to drive the heater and fans in the cotton candy machine. The humidity and temperature can therefore be well-controlled. As a result, the humidity can be lower than 58% and the temperature would be between 25 ℃ and 32 ℃. From the experimental results, it can be seen that cotton candy machines with the proposed system can automatically produce cotton candies under unfavorable environment and reduce labor cost for the industry.
