滑石粉與碳酸鈣混合型填料可以改變紙張性質、提升紙力、降低磨擦力、改善油墨轉移性及托墨性，在抄紙時可幫助上膠劑留存、降低抄紙網的磨耗。以平均粒徑8 μm之滑石粉25~75%來取代平均粒徑2 μm之碳酸鈣時，可以在不增加抄紙網磨耗的情況下，改變紙張的物理性質及印刷適性。測試手抄紙紙力強度的結果，破裂力提升約30%、抗張力提升約11.9%、撕裂力提升約8.3%、剛挺度提升約11.8%。印刷適性品質方面，印刷光澤度提升1.57%，印刷濃度則以75%取代時具有較佳的品質表現。此外，上膠度提升達39%，顯示滑石粉除本身具有疏水性外，其親油性對於上膠劑之留存也有幫助。以50%滑石粉取代碳酸鈣時，在紙張未經過壓光的情形下，嵩度值提升約3.8%。整體而言，滑石粉與碳酸鈣混合型填料對紙力強度、厚度、上膠度及印刷適性品質具有提升之效果，品質優於單一使用滑石粉或碳酸鈣填料。由於滑石粉為最低硬度之礦物，當取代比例愈高時則紙張磨擦力愈低，有助於減少紙張之磨擦破損，同時對印刷版使用壽命之延長及紙張手觸質感等方面皆有幫助。

Talc and calcium carbonate filler combinations can improve paper properties, such as increase strengths, reduce friction, have better ink transferability and ink holdout, while also increase retention and reduce fabric wear in papermaking. By using talc with an average particle size of 8 μm to replace 25-75% calcium carbonate with an average particle size of 2 μm, the paper physical properties and printability were improved, while there was no increased wear of fabrics. Burst strength of the handsheets increased about 30%, with a concurrent 11.9%, 8.3%, and 11.8% increases in tensile strength, tear strength, and stiffness, respectively. In printability, print gloss increased 1.57%;the best printing density was obtained with a 75% talc replacement of CaCO3. In addition, the sizing degree increased 39% with talc replacement, indicating that talc was not only hydrophobic, its lipophilicity could help to retain more sizing agent. When 50% of CaCO3 was replaced with talc, the bulk of paper increased 3.8% before calendering. Thus, mixed talc and calcium carbonate as paper filler could improve strengths, thickness, sizing, and printability quality. And the paper performance incorporating a mixture of these 2 components was better than either talc or calcium carbonate alone. Furthermore, as talc is the softest mineral, at higher replacement levels of calcium carbonate, the resulting paper had a reduced friction, and it was helpful to reduce friction-caused paper breakage during papermaking, extend the life of printing blankets, and produce a paper with better tactile texture.
