淡水河河口為台灣北部最大的河流,逾六百萬人口居住在其流域內,此河汙染嚴重,我們分別採集淡水河口上、中、下游的岩芯沉積物來作砷物種的分析,利用連續萃取方法將沉積物砷定義為以下五個相:特定吸附相(F1)、非特定吸附相(F2)、非結晶鐵鋁氫氧化物相(F3)、結晶鐵鋁氫氧化物相(F4)和殘留相(F5),此外,分別測量間隙水中之溶解砷濃度和氧化還原電位。
三個測站岩芯沉積物之氧化還原電位值分別為:429-529 mV、 -150-256 mV和3-135mV,顯示出中游沉積物為還原環境。間隙水砷濃度範圍為1.13-70.22 μg/L,在中游河口間隙水砷濃度有隨深度增加而增加的趨勢,淡水河沉積物間隙水擴散通量為0.03-0.42μg/cm2/yr;沉積物總砷濃度範圍為5.0 -19.0 mg/kg,上游沉積物濃度明顯低於中、下游,上游岩芯沉積物中F3、F4及F5三相濃度占總砷濃度之90%,此三相砷濃度約相等;而在中、下游岩芯沉積物占主要部份的則為F5,分別占總砷濃度50%和70%,其次要的砷物種為F3,分別占總砷含量23-49%和16-29%,淡水河沉積物中砷大部分為殘留相,其次為鐵鋁氫氧化物相,這表示淡水河沉積物中砷主要為穩定的礦物相。
淡水河沉積物岩芯之鐵鋁氫氧化物相之砷與鐵濃度具有良好相關性,但與錳濃度則無良好相關性,總砷濃度與總有機碳含量(TOC)亦無明顯相關性,顯示淡水河沉積物岩芯中砷之主要載體為鐵氫氧化物。
