Betel quid chewing habits are very common throughout Taiwan. According to Bureau of Health Statistics, Taitung County people betel nuts chewing rate ranked second only to Hualien County in the year of 1995, and the statistical data for oral cancer in 2008 from the Department of Health Cancer Registry also revealed that both incidence and mortality rates were the highest and on the yearly increase streak for Taitung County people. The oral cancer incidence and mortality have soared to the fourth place among Taiwanese men with the peak occurrence fell between the age of 52 and 55 years old. when the impact is huge on the the family and social productivity. Compared with other common cancers, the peak occurrence comes at the age as much as 10-20 years earlier. The main purpose of this study is based on the theoretical model of planned behavior to explore attitudes, subjective norms and perceived behavioral control how it affects people''s intention to accept oral screening behavior and behavior-related, and increased self-efficacy as intervening variables, health literacy, health education satisfaction variable degree of mediation to explore the behavior of people receiving oral screening intentions and behavior of diversity and acceptance of oral screening behavior and demographic variables of relevance. In this study, purposive sampling on Taitung County people over the age of 18 were conducted using "structured questionnaire", and the collected data were subject to the Chinese version SPSS12.0 analysis, including descriptive statistics, Independent t-test, single-factor analysis of variance (one-way ANOVA), Pearson''s product-moment correlation, Multiple Regression Analysis, and so on. Major research finding included(a) The integration of the public attitudes on oral cancer screening, subjective norm,Perceived behavior control has a greater positive impact on behavioral intentions and behavior on accepting oral cancer screening than individual variable.but subject to minor difference with demographic variables. (b) the public health knowledge has a positive impact on behavioral intentions and behavior on accepting oral cancer screening. (c) self-efficacy has a medium effect on behavioral intentions and behavior on accepting oral cancer screening. (d) Satisfaction with health education has a mediation effect on behavioral intentions and behavior on accepting oral cancer screening. (e) The behavioral intentions on accepting oral cancer screening. has a postive effect on behavior. To make this model more complete, this study was based on the framework of the theory of planned behavior, adding self-efficacy as an intermediary variable and other related factors to explore the various effects of the relationship between variables.
