本文旨在探討企業生命週期與創新活動的相關性。研究範圍為2004年至2008年台灣上市上櫃資訊電子產業。本研究首先援用Anthony and Ramesh(1992)企業生命週期的分類法將企業分為成長期、成熟期和衰退期;其次計算研發存量、專利存量和技術多角化三個創新活動指標。在研究方法方面,研發存量與技術多角化採用追蹤資料模型,專利存量採用計數資料模型,並以實證研究創新活動在不同的企業生命週期是否有顯著差異。實證結果發現:(1)專利存量在不同生命週期有顯著差異,研發存量與技術多角化之差異則不顯著;(2)專利存量在成長期最低,而成熟期最高;(3)研發存量對專利存量有正向顯著的影響;(4)企業規模與市場集中度對三項創新活動有正向顯著的影響。
This study aims to explore the relevance between business life cycle and innovation activities. The scope of the study is based on Taiwan listed companies in Information Electronics Industry from 2004 to 2008. This study firstly refers to the business life cycle classification by Anthony and Ramesh (1992) to divide firms into growing stage, mature stage and decline stage. And then calculate three innovation activity indicators-R&D stock, patent stock and technology diversification. To verify whether innovation activities have significant differences in different business life cycles, Panel Data Model was adopted in R&D Stock and technology diversification, and Count Data Model was adopted in patent stock. The empirical results show that: (1) Patent stock shows great significant differences in different business life cycles, R&D stock and technology diversification are not significant. (2) Patent stock is the least in the growing stage, and the most in the mature stage. (3) R&D stock will have a significant positive impact to patent stock. (4) Firm size and market concentration have a positive significant impact on the three innovation activities.
