翼狀贅肉是一種常見的眼表面疾患,影響程度可以從沒有任何症狀到嚴重的影響視力。根據過去的流行病學調查,翼狀贅肉的發生跟日曬中的紫外線有關。除此之外,對於飲酒與抽菸的影響研究結果都不一致。新的研究證據顯示氧化壓力也是造成細胞變異進而演變成翼狀贅肉的一個原因,而過去的研究也發現我們日常生活中飲用的茶葉中有許多物質可以抗氧化,其中又以綠茶含量最多。過去並沒有研究翼狀贅肉與飲茶的關係,因此本研究透過流行病學的方式來探討其中的關係。本研究採取的方式是病歷對照研究法(case control),利用眼科門診病歷上與民眾健康檢查的基本資料再加上關於飲茶的習慣問卷來了解翼狀贅肉患者與沒有翼狀贅肉患者在暴露風險因子上的差異。收集的資料使用Student’s t test與卡方檢定來分析比較。結果發現翼狀贅肉與陽光日曬時間有顯著的相關性(P=0.0156),與抽菸(P=0.1061)還有飲酒(P=0.1478)沒有統計學上的意義。飲茶的方面則有統計學上的意義(P=0.0048),這表示飲茶可能是一種預防翼狀贅肉生成的方式,可能的原因與機轉也跟過去探討細胞氧化壓力有關,未來或許可以找出新的藥物來治療或預防翼狀贅肉。

Pterygium is a common ocular surface disease, and it can be no symptoms to blindness. Based on past epidemiological investigation, it is associated with and thought to be caused by ultraviolet-light exposure, in addition to drinking and smoking affected the results are inconsistent. New research evidence has revealed oxidative stress in the pterygium tissue suggest that oxidative stress can play a role in pterygium etiopathogenesis. Green tea is proposed to be a dietary supplement in the prevention of many diseases in which oxidative stress and proinflammation are the principal causes. There is no research for the relationship between pterygium and tea. This is a case control study, and I use medical records and the public eye health examination combined with the basic information about the drinking habits questionnaire to understand if the risk of pterygium is differ form pterygium patient and normal people. Data collected using Student''s t test and chi-square test was used to analyze compare. The results showed that thepterygium and sun exposure has significant correlation (P = 0.0156). Smoking (P = 0.1061) and alcohol consumption (P = 0.1478) are without statistical significance. Tea drinking have the statistical significance (P = 0.0048), which means that tea may be a preventive way for pterygium growth. The possible causes and mechanisms may due to cellular oxidative stress. May be we can find a new drug to treat pterygium in the future.
