In recent years, a trend of emphasising design has emerged around the world. While design has become an important strategic tool for companies, it’s an imperative for the top-level management to get involved with this also. In other words, it’s only when top executives can take leadership in appropriate timming, then their companies can take the opportunity to bring about innovations successfully. The relationship between business success and the leadership style of its top management were usually more significant than their ways of management. It’s only while the top executives can exhibit clear direction and strong support, that the innovative culture of courageous risktaking can be created, which will make the company stand out from its competitors.
The aim of this research is to explore the actual measures that top executives of companies with outstanding innovations took to enhance their performance effectively. Through literature survey and analysis with the methodology of Grounded Theory, two conclusions were reached: (1) Top executives of companies with outstanding innovations usually applied design thinking in areas including organizational design, communication skills, innovation management, design orientation, and participatory management to develop their unique ways of management that can enhance their innovative performance. (2) Top executives of companies with outstanding innovations usually applied design thinking in areas including creative management, personnel management, creativity stimulation, and innovation encouragment to develop their unique ways of management that can enhance the creativity in their design team. It is hope that the above conclusions will be useful references for those Taiwanese top executives who intended to enhance innovative performance in their companies.
