This paper presents a case study of 504 elementary students participating in a local event known as “Fishing Boat Lights Festival” in Wanggong, Changhua County. This annual event, taking place in Wanggong Harbor, is promoted by the local government. The purpose of the study is to explore the overall impact of the event, the students’ attitudes towards their experience, and their personal preferences of the featured celebrating activities. The study is conducted by a set of questionnaire. The participants consist of a group of 504 fifth and sixth graders studying in the local elementary schools. The collected data is then analyzed by the software, SPSS12.0. The results of the study show the following three aspects: first, most festival-goers are highly satisfied with participating in the event, particularly enjoying the activities with their family members; second, the top three popular activities are oyster BBQ, clam-catching, and oyster shell handicraft; and third, the participants’ most favorite program is the spectacular fireworks display. To conclude, Fishing Boat Lights Festival provides the students with some positive experiences, achieving a sense of happiness, improving the parent-child relationship and promoting local cultural heritage.
