本論文探討籃球、棒球、美式足球三種球類運動的英語專業用語對詞彙分析其結構差異以及共同相似處。運用語文資料庫整理美國職籃(NBA)、美國職棒大聯盟(MLB)、美式足球聯盟(NFL)專用的專業用語在六篇相關文章，分析其單詞及名詞動詞片語的結構，並找出這些專業詞彙的特性。
本論文也加以探討這三種運動的球星由於在該運動特殊表現、薪水與價值而衍生出球星特具新鑄的新詞，本研究者也起因於華裔美國職籃球星林書豪在美國職籃上優異的表現所興起一股籃球熱潮而新鑄與其姓Lin為”Linsanity”(林來瘋)進而對於此領域引發興趣，並冀望將所學的語言知識與球類運動相結合，才開始本研究。
本研究的核心在於三種球類的專業術語的結構的共同相似處跟相異處為核心做探討並分類。不論是在動詞或名詞的類型，詞彙的長短，或是集合名詞皆可運用資料庫解析其辭彙結構在此三類比賽場上分秒必爭的狀況任何細節都有可能影響勝負，在這些時候這些專業用語都扮演非常重要的角色，只要稍有閃失都會影響比賽勝負，對於運動員來說冠軍就是終極的夢想，對於該研究來說其結果也像是研究者本身的終極夢想，也希望這詞彙分析研究的結果可以對語言，社會，運動有所貢獻。

The study of terminologies is about three excises in basketball, baseball, and football respectively in the organizations of the NBA (National Basketball Association), MLB (Major League Baseball), and NFL (National Football League). There are six articles selected for this study. We want to know their terminologies in common, and basketball terms especially. Because of the ethnic Chinese star of NBA, Jeremy Lin’s newly coined word, “Linsanity” he’s risen to made frenzy of basketball. So the researcher was interested in lexical analyses. The core of this research is the basketball terms compared with those of baseball and football. In this world, everything has two sides that we called binary oppositions with word pairs. We distinguish these three ball games with their lexical analyses on their specific feature of monosyllables or disyllables.
