The economic development of Vietnam has been quite successful since the inception of economic reform in 1986. The roles of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows to the country’s exports have played significantly contribution for the country’s economic development. In addition, the continuous depreciation of Dong helps the country’s exports to grow fast during the past two decades. The aquatic industry has increased as well as the country’s development at the same time.
This thesis examines the effect of FDI, and exchange rate on the export of Aquatic industry in Vietnam, using Vietnamese government official Time Series annual data from the year 1990 to 2010. This study employs the Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) unit root tests and Johansen co-integration test to examine the level of integration and the Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) model. The empirical results from Ordinary Least Square (OLS) method provided evidence of a significant negative impact of the depreciation of Dong on Vietnam’s aquatic industry. On the other hand, FDI seems not significant factor for Vietnamese aquatic industry in long term, although it has affected the development of the aquatic industry in the short term.
