This study aims to investigate the influence of professional managers on family business performance while considering the moderating effects of product diversification and environmental dynamism. In a panel data of 124 publicly listed family-owned firms in the electronics industry during the period 2008-2012, the results show that: (1) the involvement of professional managers in the family business has no significant effect on firm performance; (2) the involvement of professional managers contributes to improve the performance only when the family firms operate in the relative dynamic environment; (3) the professional managers do not have significant contributions to those family firms who have diversified product portfolios.
