The fast pace of urban life nowadays has created the atmosphere for people to relax themselves by taking exercises. According to the related work, we found that people who exercise with others have more engaging experience. Cycling is one of the popular activities in urban area. However, it is always difficult to find someone to ride together at same time and place. In this research, we took a research-through-design approach and developed an APP, Bike Together, which generates a sense of riding together with the distant paired partner based on exchanging instant cycling information. We collected what people contemplated about cycling from previous researches and concluded the design implications. Also, due to mobility of cycling, we integrated the concept of ubiquitous computing interaction design for more intuitive and natural experience. In the latter half of the study, we conducted a serial of experiments to investigate the effect of the Bike Together. In summary, the contributions of this paper are to explore the influence of social factors on cycling activity and identify the design elements to embody copresent cycling experience.
